Master Allen Hoss Rokudan (6th Degree)

Master Allen Hoss is an architect by profession, serving as Director of Design for Pimsler Hoss Architects, Inc., and a martial artist by avocation and long time dedication - beginning his training in Tai Chi in 1978 and continuing for over 29 years in Cuong Nhu - he now is Head Instructor at Sung Ming Shu dojo. Allen lives in Grant Park with his wife and soulmate, Leigh - and dogs, cats, birds, fish and Earl the turtle.

Sensei Doug Storm Yondan (4th degree)

Doug began Cuong Nhu at Sung Ming Shu in 1988. He is the Director of Active Self-Defense, a program specializing in women's self-defense. Doug is also the Assistant Director of SMS's after school program which teaches martial arts to children at schools in the Atlanta area.

Sensei Maceo Rogers Yondan (4th degree)

A Fourth Degree Black Belt instructor of Cuong Nhu Oriental Martial Arts in Atlanta, GA, Maceo is also an established Visual Artist who works with a wide range of mediums (acrylic, oil, watercolor, dirt, pastels, etc.) and the Deputy Director of DeKalb County Office of Economic Development. Maceo, his wife Sharon and their son Alex live in Decatur, Georgia.

Sensei Ben McGimsey Sandan (3th degree)

Ben began his Cuong Nhu career while attending the University of Florida where he was studying his first love, Astronomy. He stuck with both and, when not in the dojo, can be found teaching astronomy and physics at Georgia State University and Mercer University. When overcome with beach withdrawal, Ben can be found scuba diving in the Caribbean.

Sensei Gordon Eilen Sandan (3rd degree)

Gordon and his wife, Nancy, started training at Sung Ming Shu in 1995. Their kids, Anna and Alex, are also students at the dojo. Gordon has been teaching adult and kids classes since getting his black belt in 2001. When not doing Cuong Nhu, he also studies Aikido, and occasionally puts in a little time at his software company.

Sensei Ben Boesch Nidan (2nd degree)

Ben is a Native Floridian (Miami), employed by Bank of America, actively training in Cuong Nhu and Wing Chun Gung Fu.

Sensei Mike Benedict Nidan (2nd degree)

Going on 21 years in technical theatre, Mike currently manages the production department of The Atlanta Opera. When the curtain comes down and all the details are finished, Mike enjoys teaching Cuong Nhu as a 2nd degree Black Belt.

Sensei Kip Grosenick Nidan (2nd degree)
|
Kip is a 2nd degree Black Belt instructor with Sung Ming Shu dojo. Kip has studied Cuong Nhu Oriental Martial Arts for over 16 years. By day, he is a freelance network television producer and father of two, who studies tai chi and meditation in his free time.

Sensei Jeremy Dahl Nidan (2nd degree)

Research primatiologist in both lab and field, Jeremy started Cuong Nhu training in 1996 to help meet the physical demands of work in the rainforest, as well as personal security issues in Central America. He is currently Founder/Director of the Deep Forest Field School, with the aim of saving trees, woodlands and the urban forest of Atlanta.

Sensei Shawn McElroy Nidan (2nd degree)

Shawn is the director of the children's after school program, and assists Sensei Doug with Active Self Defense. He has been training since 1996 in Cuong Nhu. He is a father of 3, and a dedicated husband. Along with teaching children, Shawn spins Fire Poi and Fire Staff, and shoots a camera built in 1904 that takes 360 degree photos.

Sensei Carlos Phelan Nidan (2nd degree)

Carlos began his martial arts training in Caracas, Venezuela in 1983, training in Kuk Sool Won and Gosoku Ryu. His Cuong Nhu training began in 2001 and he has been training at Sung Ming Shu Dojo since then, with the exception of 18 months of service in the United States Army. Now a Nidan, a daddy and a husband, Carlos wonders what happened to the days when he could spend countless hours at the dojo.

Sensei Mark Staples Nidan (2nd degree)

Mark has been teaching Cuong Nhu for 4 years and has 10 years of karate experience. When he is not at the dojo he is at his second job (the one that actually pays the mortgage). Mark is also a certified personal trainer and is interested in helping others increase their overall fitness whether at the dojo or the gym.

Sensei Jack Kiely Shodan (1st degree)

When Jack is not working as a writer/editor, he enjoys training and teaching adults and children. His own 12 and 16-year-old kids participate in Cuong Nhu and have a lot of fun with their friends there. Jack likes to chat with our Spanish-speaking students. He is bilingual as a result of living in Spain and Argentina. He feels privileged to have trained in Florida under O’Sensei Ngo Dong, the founder of Cuong Nhu.

Sensei Marc Gowan Shodan (1st degree)

Marc, Ticket Services Manager for the Atlanta Coalition of Performing Arts, also works in the entertainment industry as a professional actor and stage director. He started his study of martial arts in the early 1970's studying Zen Kempo. 20 years later he joined Cuong Nhu where he is active teaching both kids and adults and planning the yearly Sung Ming Shu Chili Cook Off. Married for over 25 years to Valerie Wolny, their daughter, Rachel is an Cuong Nhu student and instructor. Marc has also studied Shinkendo Japanese Swordsmanship since 2007.

Eben is an accounting manager with AT&T, and has been practicing Cuong Nhu martial arts since 2000.

Mike started training in Coung Nhu in 1998. At first, it was just a means to stay fit. But, he quickly realized that Cuong Nhu holistically develops the mind, body and spirit in a setting of community. Our mission is to create the leaders of tomorrow, today; one individual at a time. Mike is an architect by profession and has had the privilege of working on numerous high profile projects across the country.

Sensei Rick Goldstein Shodan (1st degree)

Rick got his introduction to Cuong Nhu watching his youngest daughter in her after school class; he started taking classes a year later. Rick is a high school science teacher and coach at the Paideia School, where he tries to figure out teenagers. Rick lives in Decatur with his wife and two volleyball playing daughters.

Sensei Rachel Gowan Black Belt

|
Rachel began training in Cuong Nhu when she was just six years old; she started in the kids class under the guidance of Master Mary Davis, working her way up to the adult class. Rachel now helps teach both kid and adult classes; she earned her black belt in May 2010. When not training in Cuong Nhu Rachel enjoys camping, backpacking, and yoga. Rachel is currently living in the Netherlands for a year; when she returns to the U.S., she plans on going to graduate school to pursue a doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology.
